Renowned for her dewy, even-toned complexion, Hailey Bieber stopped off at her latest career destination: Rhode Skin, June 15th 2022. With instant sell-outs, Bieber dropped her latest, limited-edition product after winning the rights to her skincare brand name. With no stopping Hailey, the question is, what was her journey to success? Where does the Rhode end for Rhode Skin? Okay, I’ll stop now.
“A lot of people talk about looking like a shiny dolphin or a mochi; looking like a glazed donut, I think it’s like a state of mind.”
Beauty is controversial. Depending on what you find beautiful really defines the meaning. For some, that’s enhancing their original features with treatments, such as filler or lash extensions. For others and Hailey, beauty might just be the ‘natural you’. Back in 2020, Beverly Hills surgeon, Dr Daniel Barrett falsely accused Hailey of having work done in a TikTok video, stating “Pay special attention to the nose. What do you think? Well, I’ll tell you what I think. I think it’s physically impossible without getting a little bit of help from someone like myself to go from this picture to that picture.”
After years of constant speculation, either way, it’s undeniable Biebers’ glow is perfection. The model-turned-entrepreneur tells Vanity Fair, “A lot of people talk about looking like a shiny dolphin or a mochi; looking like a glazed donut, I think it’s like a state of mind.” She continues, “I want to look biteable and just delicious… I just want to look like I’m drenched before I go to sleep at night. That’s my vibe.”

Being relatable and truthful when it comes to being an influencer is a necessity and having trust in Hailey isn’t difficult. Repeating her skincare hacks on her YouTube channel, she states, “my standard when I go to bed at night is that if I’m not getting into bed looking like a glazed donut, then I’m not doing the right thing. Find yourself a moisturiser that helps you look like a glazed doughnut at the end of the day.” Her funny and down to earth tone makes it impossible not to want to be Hailey’s best friend.
She single handedly created the ‘glazed doughnut skin’ trend and not long after, arrived the ‘glazed doughnut nails’ in October, where Hailey wore the super sweet look at the MET Gala, becoming the manicure of the year! Maybe her next move should be ‘Rhode nails’…
To a lot of people, Hailey’s fame struck gold when she married none other than the “Baby” singer himself, Justin Bieber. After the ex’s reconciled in June 2018, they were quickly engaged by July and married in November of that year. Although their decisions seem abrupt and fast, their love for each other is undoubtedly strong. “I’m freaking married now and I got the best wife in the world. She supports me through so much. I’m really honored to be her husband.” Justin said, passionately, during an interview with Zayne Lowe on Apple Music’s Beats 1 station in February 2020.

Family is extremely important to Hailey, so much so, her sold-out skincare brand, ‘Rhode’ is her middle name, her mothers and grandmothers too, who are also obsessed with skincare. She says on ‘The Run-Through with Vogue’ podcast, “I’ve always been invested in my skin, I learned a lot from my mom and my grandma. My Nana was very obsessive with her creams! Her creams! Her creams!” Hailey’s humble and modest way of speaking about childhood memories, to which a lot of people can relate, highlights how she grew up far away from the Hollywood lifestyle. In a 2018 Vogue interview, she recalls her parents, Kennya and Stephen Baldwin, “not bringing in any aspects of the industry” into her home. Although Hailey didn’t attend college, she learnt how to keep up with a busy lifestyle and maintain a schedule as she began working at 17.
Starting her modelling career in 2014, Hailey knew exactly what she wanted and she got it. She appeared in magazines, such as Tatler and i-D magazine, and a year later she was photographed for Vogue and Teen Vogue, only three months apart. By 2016, she was the face of and walking for Ralph Lauren and many other designers, gliding along the catwalks of London, Paris, Milan and New York Fashion Weeks, from which she’d definitely earned her name.

Hailey called her runway walking quits in 2018, revealing in an Allure interview that she had a bad experience with a casting director. “He said something to my agent that just shook my confidence when it came to the runway. I don’t want to feel bad about myself in this space because I feel really good about the other work I do. So why would I even put myself in a position to feel small?” From now on, for the better of Bieber’s mental health, you’ll see her on the front row, cheering, instead.

In April last year, Hailey suffered from a mini-stroke and was hospitalised, telling her fans via Instagram and her YouTube channel. Since this traumatising emergency, she’s recently said how her mental health has been impacted. She tells the ‘The Run-Through with Vogue’ podcast, she “struggled with PTSD” and “the fear that it would come back.” Hailey has always been open about her mental health, which is a huge factor as to why her fans adore her so much, she opened up on Mental Health Month in May, explaining how therapy became her best friend.
It’s not a surprise that Rhode Skin is another clear, light and transparent element to Hailey’s charisma, there seem to be no secrets. Launching her first product since the trademark scandal, the new limited-edition Peptide Lip Treatment, featuring a Vanilla Cake flavour to celebrate her birthday, 22 November, releasing the same day for $16. Even Skims co-founder, Kim Kardashian, tells Refinery29 that she has notifications on her phone for when products are restocked! In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, she said, “We’re not ready to launch a brand-new product, so I just wanted something out there to get people excited.”

If you’re desperate like the rest of us, Rhode Skin is available to shop for US buyers only. The limited-edition Peptide Lip Treatment in ‘vanilla cake’, will be available on rhodeskin.com for a limited time only, from 11 A.M. ET. On your marks, get set, go!
Waiting for restocks to appear and when Rhode is internationally available, until then, glaze your face like a doughnut before you sleep. If you don’t look like a doughnut, you’ve done it wrong. You heard it from Hailey, not me.
